IIT-Madras Launches Data Center Operations Training to Power India’s Digital Backbone

📅 Chennai | October 14, 2025

In a move to strengthen India’s growing digital infrastructure workforce, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) has launched a new initiative to train engineering students in data center operations — a critical skill set as the country rapidly expands its cloud and AI capabilities.

The program, developed in collaboration with Vertiv, a global provider of digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, will offer hands-on modules in thermal and power management, remote monitoring, and predictive maintenance. The course aims to equip over 2,000 students with the specialized knowledge required to manage next-generation data centers — the backbone of India’s AI-driven economy.

“With India becoming a global hub for data storage and computing, there’s an urgent need for engineers trained in operational efficiency and sustainability,” said a spokesperson from IIT-Madras.
“This program bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world infrastructure management.”

The training initiative aligns with India’s Digital India and National Semiconductor Mission, both of which emphasize developing skilled professionals for high-tech industries.

Experts believe this collaboration will open up lucrative career paths in emerging domains like cloud computing, data engineering, and sustainable infrastructure management. The program also integrates AI-driven monitoring systems, reflecting the growing importance of automation in managing high-performance data environments.
